On 1 October 2003, the first European regulations on natural stone and related materials came into force. They were replaced on 1 July 2013 by the Construction Products Regulation (CPR 305/2011).
From now on, companies supplying stone products are obliged to subject the materials to laboratory tests to prove their technical and safety characteristics, and to provide the products with documentation called CE marking.
As early as 2004, AS.MA.VE. took action by proposing to its member companies a project for carrying out technical tests on stone materials, in order to comply with the European legislation that provides for the application of the CE marking.
The participating companies support this project both financially and materially by making and supplying the specimens needed to carry out the tests.
To date, this commitment has led to the creation of one of Europe's largest databases for the typification of stone materials and their characteristics.
The development and success of this project gives participating companies the opportunity to enter the market with tested and certified products, meeting the expectations of an increasingly demanding and informed clientele.
